In conjunction with Plymouth College of Art, and due to the expansion of our printing operations, we are looking for a super-charged apprentice!  Full details are below ~ if you need any more info please email mary@fortyfiveclothing.com or call into Forty Five at 48 Ebrington St, PL4 9AD.

Job Vacancy

Apprenticeship – Screen Printing
Location: Central Plymouth
Start Date: January/February 2011
Length of Contract: 12 - 24 months
Salary: Meets Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage
Qualification level: 2/3 (dependant on prior attainment)

Job Description
Forty Five Clothing is an independent clothing store that has been established in Plymouth for the last 4 years. The business has recently evolved to include a vintage clothing store and has expanded the screen print side of the business, Custom Sign and Print. As such a vacancy exists for a Screen Print Apprentice to join the company at a very exciting time.

The Screen Print Apprentice will work full-time for the company in the screen print area of the business. In addition, the apprentice will work towards a Machine Printing (Screen) Apprenticeship with Plymouth College of Art. This will be delivered via onsite assessments and monthly attendance at taught sessions at the College. Attendance at Plymouth College of Art will also be required occasionally for periodic examinations.

This vacancy will suit someone with a passion for design and print. Successful candidates will be practical, with a keen eye for detail and an appreciation of the importance of quality and consistency. A working knowledge of Photoshop software would be beneficial. As you will be working with machinery, an understanding of the need for safe working practices is essential. You will work closely with the business owners, receiving supervision and training, yet be able to demonstrate initiative. You will be required to respond to enquiries in a customer focussed business and therefore it is essential that you possess excellent communication skills. This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to gain screen print knowledge and experience, and a print industry recognised qualification.

Apply

To apply for this apprenticeship please email a CV and Covering Letter for the attention of Mary to mary@fortyfiveclothing.com. Within your covering letter please ensure that you answer the following:
  1. What skills, knowledge, qualifications and personal qualities do you possess that make you suitable for this apprenticeship? – please give examples where possible
  2. If you live outside of a reasonable commuting distance from this place of work and/or Plymouth College of Art, please give details of your accommodation/travel plans.

Please attach examples of your own design work that may support your application.

Vacant's latest collection

Vacant and it's sister brand, Pretty Vacant, is an edgy retro influenced clothing brand for those of us who like our clothing unique, individual and from the wrong side of the tracks. Unusual prints alongside classic vintage inspired shapes keep people coming back for more from this urban British brand. This latest collection from the Autumn/Winter 2010 season has everything a boy needs - rugged checked shirts, and that new season essential, the dodgy snowflake knit, just right for hanging out in that Alpine ski lodge this winter.  Shop the whole Vacant range right now !

The collection is currently only availible in our Plymouth shop but will be online soon....watch this space!

About Lovestruck

Lovestruck is a cute womenswear brand, aimed at young women who want to look cute and kitsch!! It is designed by two fashion addicted girls (well grown up girls) who are quite obsessed with all things cute and beautiful. Sugar and spice and all things nice...

'When we design the dresses, tops and skirts we are influenced by vintage shapes, vintage fabrics, and we do our best to seek out the most adorable prints.  We treasure prints with vintage styled florals, sweet heart chiffon prints and bows bows bows (we cannot get enough bows!!). We aim to carry two kinds of ranges - one for the daytime - an over cute range utilsing floral jerseys and cotton - floral prints and bow embellished knits, and a evening range - chiffons and lace - a sexier more sophisticated look - toned down prints, nude colours.'
